Applying superscript using a keyboard shortcut

You can apply superscript using a keyboard shortcut.

For Windows users:

  1. Select the character, number, or symbol to which a superscript should be applied in the Google Docs document.
  2. Press Ctrl + period (.).

For Mac users:

  1. To apply superscript to a text character, number, or symbol, select the character, number, or symbol in the Google Doc.
  2. Press ⌘ + period (.).

You may remove the superscript by selecting the text, character, number or symbol where the superscript should not appear, and then using the same keyboard shortcut to undo the work.

Possibly an extension might interfere with keyboard shortcuts if the keyboard shortcuts do not work.

Inserting specific characters in superscript

You can also insert specific characters in superscript:

  1. Click the character you want to insert in the Google Docs document.
  2. Click Insert in the menu.
  3. A character map will appear when you select Special characters.
  4. Superscript will appear on the left once you enter it in the Search box.
  5. Click the character you want to insert.
  6. Click Close (X) on the top right of the dialog box.

It may be easier to simply type the character and then apply the superscript format.
